I would say that depends more on the particular person who visited, than India itself. India is very diverse and offers all kinds of different experiences. 
  
 But of all the foreigners that I have talked to who have visited India, some loved it, some found it okay and similar to any other developing country, and some absolutely hated it. So the experience reflects more of the tastes of the individual than the place - to each their own. 😄

Well that really depends on the area where that foreigner person has been. But in general they are careful in Delhi but care free in Himachal. It's really hard to have one POV of India. But yeah we are safe & better than most.

Opinions on regions in India for work

Recently I went through a post on Reddit where a woman(Indian) had asked for opinions of how people of the sub(the sub is dominated by westerners) perceived Indians.

Apparently the common answer from women for Indian men was: they are unhygienic, stink a lot, super desperate and were the majority of the population in blind dating scenarios. So essentially non-datable.

The common answer from men for Indian Woman was: overly ambitious, obnoxious, highly opinionated to the extent any deviations from their thought process was not perceived well by them. Not non-datable but not preferred either. 

Of course, the answers will be highly skewed considering a very limited audience but just the commonality in a lot of comments caught my attention.

Although India is a country with great culture and food,but it seems due to lack of unity, selfishness and a tendency to pull down others,
India would take light years to be a developed country.

Also this has been a major root cause of being attacked by so many invaders over the centuries.

Someone who has resources in abundance, would not take any interest to help others in need. Not just basic,but any other thing also.

Infact to say,we get easily influenced by anything. We don't have our own identity just like the French.

I'm a Software Engineer with ~4 years of experience. I'm thinking of switching companies and grabbing opportunities abroad and eventually settling there. I'm planning for the Netherlands or the UK, mainly because of the standard of living they provide.

However I've also heard of people returning to India. Can anyone here share their experience or know someone on how is life living abroad?

After reading replies in grapevine for dystopian policies, HR policies, work culture, companies to avoid(looks like all companies should be avoided), related questions I'm kind of regretting as I took the decision to stay back in India and not pursue masters abroad to live with my parents.

Given how pathetic the work culture is in almost all the startups(I'll go with 99.99%), politics and poor work life balance and living in a country where I don't get any tax benefits even after paying 30+% direct income tax, is it really worth living in this country anymore ? I'm feeling very sad, looks like I missed the opportunity to go abroad as I'm 25 now. Only my love towards my parents is holding me back since they both are around the age of 60 and I don't want to be the son who will make crores of money abroad and not be with them in case of any emergency. I'm don't want to leave them alone. Looks like there is no hope working in India. 😔

I am currently an SDE3 working in Japan, in the past 6 months I have moved from SDE1 to 3. I am planning on moving back to India in the next year, can someone list their job roles as an SDE2 or SDE3. I personally think that there is a big gap of skills between the engineers working in these 2 countries (Indian engineers are better in terms of skills whereas Japanese are really organised). So I want to know where I lack so that I can prepare accordingly.

Stuck in the wrong states are we?

Question came up because it’s Independence Day 🇮🇳
A lot of us have had the privilege to be able to go abroad, but ended up choosing not to.

For me, it was just believing there’s enough growth here in the coming few decades + friends/family

Looking to hear if the reduced brain drain is actually true, and what makes people stay.

To people who choose to stay in India, what made you stay? 🪷

For me it was the army and followed by my corporate job. I never felt like leaving the country. It’s always better to live like a first class citizen in a 3rd world country than a third class citizen in a first world country. 
  
 In addition to this, family is what defines us as Indians and that kept me hinged back home

How to think about this?
Imagine going to travel somewhere and you can't upload a photo or status anywhere. What will you choose? Foreign or India and why?

Context : I have always been an Indian traveller enthusiast. I really have no interest in going to foreign countries to travel. For me, it looks just like a status symbol and nothing more where you just keep on posting status and come back.
And I totally understand everyone has their own perspective but one thing which I don't understand is why the people who are travelling to foreign countries feel so cool about themselves. One of my friend (same CTC) travels a lot to foreign countries and he keeps telling me that I must be jealous of his lifestyle which I am not at all. I will definitely be jealous of a person who will be visiting unknown Indian travel spots but not of him.

Whenever I read foreign media outlets, India is the new Asian Tiger that will outpace most emerging economies in growth. But Indian media and Indian people act like India is the worst place to be.

The dichotomy is extremely confusing. Why is it that foreign media coverage on our economy is more favourable than our own hopes and aspirations from this country?

PS: I am really big on Indian Exceptionalism, the belief that India's economic development and trajectory are unique or exceptional compared to other nations, driven by our large and diverse population, thriving middle class, our entrepreneurial spirit, and the emphasis on technology and innovation.

Why do Indians hate India?

Lack of opportunities, too much competition and no support from government (unless you know someone who knows someone) 
  
 It is just not India, you speak with natives of other countries they will not paint rosy pictures. Happiest country Finland has such gloom in population and they accept it
