Where will you settle?

I am planning to settle down in one particular city in the next 3 to 5 years. I am currently evaluating Bangalore, Hyderabad and Pune. From long term perspective ( for next 20 to 30 years) Which city will offer better job prospects ( IT/Software Development/Product Management/Strategy related jobs) along with a decent life style supported by satisfactory amenities like Gated housing options which are not super expensive, Good schooling options for kids, Decent commuting facilities like Metro, wide roads etc. Interested to hear feedback from folks who went through or going through this dilemma.

- rainfall has reduced - > 70% lakes have dried up/covered up by builders - its not even feb and there is shortage of water everywhere. There are people literally carrying jugs of water on their head like villages if you head out after evenings. - brigade/sobha/prestige societies with flats > 1.5 cr have put out notices with water supply being cut for more than 6 hours everyday, wtf is Bangalore real estate really - water supply here was really bad initially ( hard water, polluted water) but the water shortage in feb only is really worrisome. I want to understand homeowners/aspiring homeowners - how are you planning for this? Are You even worried about this? I'm currently working as a software engineer in India, with TC 45LPA and 2 years of experience. I'm thinking about applying for a Master's in CS in the USA for fall 2024. But I'm not sure if I want to settle there or not currently. Should I make the move considering things are going well in India? Getting a job directly in the US seems close to impossible. Any advice? Thanks!

Our jobs requires us to move to a different location almost every few years. Considering this fact, how do folks here decided where to buy their permanent home? I used to live in Gurgaon before covid. I've been working remotely since then. In the long run, I don't see myself working from home all the time. I may move to work in a hybrid setup. I had always observed that there are not a lot of opportunities in Gurgaon comparing with Hyderabad or Bangalore. Moreover, I don't like big & crowded places. I don't see myself living in these metro cities in the long run.

Most of the South Indians Prefer buying individual houses or building one. What do you prefer and why ?

Been in Bangalore for 6+ years and love everything the city has given me. This city ( more like people here) taught me what software engineering and product sense is, how to entrepreneurs function, whats a 100X coder like. Made many memories, weekend trips to nearby places were so nice. Dated, moved in and then married my girlfriend, adopted a dog. So Bangalore has given me a lot. But in hindsight it takes a way a lot also - 1. Everybody is in constant work mode, even in parties its just about who is doing what 2. Everybody is in loot mode here - i have seen locals pay less for veggies/fruits in front of me, then the veggies apparently have lead in them 3. Rents/builders/brokers/roads - we all know whats up with them Though it was nice initially, now i feel like even after earning so much ( ctc > 1cr) if i just spend it all here ( monthly expenses ~2lacs same is with all my married friends), what is the point even. Hence making a move to slow life now, where you get a house with garden for 25k and fresh veggies and you can actually develop some relationship with community. This urge to always outperform in career is not really needed, we all eventually work towards savings and hence if i earn less but spend even lesser, its more or less the same thing for me. But i dont want to live in a matchbox, travel 1 hour to meet a friend, eat a roti for 150bucks and be in constant anxiety about climbing the ladder. All i want is to focus on health, and sit in a garden in some sunshine with my wife and my dog and enjoy a cup of tea. So yes, I AM DONE. Moving to a tier 2 ( more like tier 2.5 town ) Happy to answer any questions if anybody has any.

I’ve heard many stories of founders going through tough times, lack of salary, constant pressure from investors. Lot of hype around starting up but maybe a stable job is better?

Let's face it, bangalore is expensive, in terms of value for money. There are so many infrastructure issues. Travel issues etc But at the same time, Bangalore is the major leagues for tech in India. Events, meetups, startups all are prevalent mostly in Bangalore. Given all this, and having a choice on where you wanna stay, what would you choose? 1. Bangalore 2. Other city? 3. Lead Nomadic life, Travel around city to city, state to state, country to country?
