Health scare at 35

Had a regular yearly check up 2 weeks back and found that I'm diabetic. Both my parents are diabetic and I assumed I'll be as well at some point in my life as an inheritance from them but never thought this early. I did not tell this to anyone, not even my wife. Took me 2 weeks to get hold of myself and let the feeling sink in. Started making changes to my life style since yesterday and started working out as well. Today is Day-2.

My Experience:

2 years back I was detected Pre-diabetic. Cut down consumption of white sugar to zero. Cut down on any food that has White Sugar in it (Biscuits, Ice Cream, Desserts, cold drinks, etc.). Became conscious of reading ingedrients/Contain's part when I buy any packed food.

Developed habit of walking 8K steps or burning 150Kcal after dinner. My glycemic levels are now normal. I am no longer a pre-diabetic. This can be managed with active lifestyle. White sugar is a poison. Rely on Fruits to fulfill the glucose levels of your body.

PS: After 2 years I've started consuming food having white sugar occasionally ( on Diwali or Holi and that too in limits). Never restricted myself from consuming naturally sweet fruits (Banana, Mango, Apple, etc.).

It can totally be reversed if you follow good lifestyle change... Happened with me too. Consult a good doctor & follow everything he says.
Good Luck 👍

Just make sure that he is the best endocrinologist in your city. Mine was so strict that I had to be disciplined out of guilt 😌

@RowdySweat i would stay away from it especially if you're pre-diabetic or diabetic, proper food plans in consultation w/ nutritionist is what will help you optimize for max well being.

True that..! For me intermittent fasting has done wonders ... Honestly most people are pre diabatic ...but fasting can help with insulin resistance...yes it should be under guidance...but for me it worked well....

I discovered I was pre diabetic when I was 27 along with a bunch of other health issues. Tl,dr - it's reversible - Needs one to be conscious about diet and some moderate physical activity (not necessarily gyms but walks for 1 hour in the morning or exercising for 30 mins for 4 days a week).
Intermittent fasting of 12 hours also helps to control in short term.
It's still a on off journey fo me because I have a tendency to stress eat but even if you miss routine for a few days, key is to start it back again.

My only suggestion is please be scientific when if you want to solve this. People would ask you to have some herbs or do yoga (that is just a cardio)

Instead what you should do is

  1. Diet
  2. Most importantly strength training

You have too few muscles and thus less metabolism. As you age you muscle start to decrease and eventually you won't be able daily activities like standing up from a chair.

Just Google and use healthline website or any other scientific website as main source of information

I am not much sure, I have read somewhere. the medicine mafia and the lobby has pull down the threshold value so that more more people will come under diabetic category. once someone started taking that medicine, its life long addiction.

That’s some theory. Can you share more?

Thank you guys for your support. It gives me strength to know that this is reversible. I was in such shock that I didn't even Google before I posted here. I am noting all your suggestions.

I have been a lean guy all my life and have never been to the gym. I do play serious cricket with my team every weekend though. But I started going to the gym from yesterday. I am going to control food intake and stop sugar intake as well.

Once again thank you all sooooo much. This support means a lot

PSA: Don't drink too much (water)

So, I love water. Who doesn't? It's one of the top few drinks known to man. And so in office I used to drink a lot of water. I thought that's healthy.

Over time, I started developing a throbbing headache. I was very confused, and assu...
