If I have a startup idea as a student, how to proceed into development.

I am very serious about this one idea and I think it would be very useful for me and my family.

So, I want to ask the founder and the pms here "How can I validate this idea".

I don't want to jump right into creating this product without some validation.

There is a global competitor for this idea, but they have very small download number around 15k downloads across both platform (apple+android).

I have a budget of 5k ruppee to validate this idea.

I understand if someone is asking this question, the person isn't ready. But would like to know from founders, what was your motivation ? What pushed you over from a 9-5?
Is it just taking a bet on yourself and working towards solving the problem?

When should one startup ?

1. I am having a strong problem statement, which is thoroughly validated, along with a business plan, but I am not working or starting it as I lack confidence because I don't have a team in place.

( I am an IIM graduate and currently a product manager - giving these details just to get a sense of my background, which might help in the type of suggestions from your side).

I have over 5 years of experience in product management and have worked with 2 companies in the past. On multiple occasions i felt that I am struggling with what to build next.
Generating a laundry list of ideas could be easy but generating an impactful roadmap is something that i struggle with. Is this because I am incompetent as a product manager or other PMs also get stuck in similar situations, if yes then what do you do to come out of it?

Want to build a AI startup. Finding it impossible as 
1) Incumbents with distribution and data will easily build AI to their products
2) I don’t have PhD to build something truly innovative.
3) For consumer space, I don’t think it’s possible to build a new device or a OS etc (Incumbents again!)

So recently, I read a lot of posts on Grapevine regarding some startups having no vision, poor management, toxicity etc etc, yet, many of these startups are doing quite a good business. I understand there is no correlation between work culture of a startup and it’s business outcome, but certainly, when a startup has poor management and unclear vision, then it should have troubles. That is not the case.
Ola Electric seems to be doing well, Zomato became profitable and there are a few other MNCs with a similar scenario. As an employee, I really want to understand if we are missing something here, like maybe lack of foresight, or are we being greedy with respect to salary and stuff, or maybe we don’t empathise with founders? Sometimes I really try to understand the perspective of founders, but then nothing can justify pathetic workplace or poor management.

When I was in 12th and gave my exams for JEE Mains I got -

Physics : 1
Chemistry : 2
Maths : -3

Basically:0 but it was intentional. I got 99% on my 12th and 10th board. Qualified for NERIST Entrance Exam. Got everything but wanted to prove a point, “One piece of paper won’t decide my future.”

Guess I was wrong. Now no investors wants to invest in my ideas because they look for pedigree.

My friends got into IIT Bombay, Delhi and Kharagpur. But unfortunately for them they couldn’t get a job????

My friend who got into IITK got the highest marks in our state batch of 2018. Now his doing coaching. My IITB friend didn’t get an interview nor placement. Lastly my IITD friend is back at studying for MTech.

Don’t understand what is happening. I can build but investors don’t invest. They can work but got no job.￼

What questions would you ask to evaluate if you should join an early stage startup in this market?

The objective is to ensure job longevity, avoid getting laid off and experience a reasonable amount of growth.
