So During our scum calls with client my manager  gives update for whole team himself and doesnt let us update on the task which we have worked on ourself . Mf just grabs all the glory  in pursuit for good feedback from client side   meanwhile he does nothing technical  and during internal meeting he says you guys should speak more with client  and ALSO he ask for everyone's update on task before scrum and then pokes why is it not done even on task whose estimated completion  date/time is far away. 

So annoying and frustating .

Just a rant from your average software dev . 
Do give any solution you might have . 🙂

If I see this ad on my feed one more time...

I can’t be be the only one, but I am surrounded by multiple people that just do not believe in async communication. They first send a “hi”, wait for me to acknowledge and then only proceed to tell me what they want. Even if it is something ridiculous like “What is the URL to access this portal?”. 

I generally am very quick with messages and from the last few months, this “hi” business is ticking me off. I decided to do some social experiment and delayed my responses to hi. 

If someone just sends me a “hi”, I schedule a “hi” to 3 hours from then. Result? People would rather sit on blockers than tell me what they want. 

I then tried a decreasing backoff. If you texted me a “hi” once, I’d respond in 3 hours. Repeat it a second time, I’d respond in 4 hours. 5 hours the third time, 6 hours the fourth and so on. 

Results? People would still rather I acknowledge their “hi” than tell me what they want.  

Some anecdotes of how “efficient” communication is:

1. A guy wanted access to a portal that I managed. He pinged me a “hi” every morning for 7 straight days before actually asking me what he wants. 
2. Another person wanted to understand git commands that can be used to solve merge conflicts. But not before pinging “hi” for 4 days, then just pulling me into a call with their manager and their manager pinging me a “hi” when I declined the call. 
3. Another person wanted an update on a ticket I closed 2 years ago. All he wanted was a change request number, which he could find using control + F on the Jira portal. He chose to send “hi”s to multiple team mates of mine when I didn’t respond. 

Ultimately, I started telling people to not just ping and disappear and that they can reach out to me. But I guess old habits die hard and I still receive multiple “hi”s.

Is it okay for an organisation to encourage pfficial communication over whatsapp?
I am in 20+ whatsapp groups. Manager keeps on texting on group on Sundays as well day and night. Need to know community's views on this.

With so many zoom meetings where someone just wants to toot their own horn to monotonous town halls, how the hell am I supposed to get any actual work done? So much talk about doing the work but no actual time to do it!

I am a budding s/w developer. Out of my curiosity and zeal to learn and to sharpen my skill i built  a product delivery framework for the organisation I worked on contract for the past 2 years. Which somehow went on to have a bigger impact on the organisation's product delivery timelines. I thought I had accomplished something today with my ability but then came a shock to me. My reporting  manager who i used  get approval for having few permissions from the upper management for implementing such a framework has procured  the documentation of the framework and pitched the framework among the pm as it was his own idea and effort even he changed the documentation author to his name( that org hardly writes docs for their products) and pitched the framework accross the org and got all the appreciation without putting any effort into it. 

This is a great learning for me and a good experience for the people who are reading it. My advice to young s/w engineers whichever org you work your idea and thinking will be fresh and innovative It's better to  save your idea and effort for the later stages of your career in the org  once you get some sort of ownership on what you work so that you can't depend on your levels who just approach you in the intention to steal your efforts always. 
True hard work always has a reward.
