If he breaks up over phone then- until he calls the call or until the msg is delivered.
If he does it f2f- then untill he turn around and starts walking.

No, message has to be read for the receipt to be confirmed
For f2f, you can provide a shoulder for crying during the conversation as well. It's a grey zone, but there have been Brocode precedents to support this
