Hey Folks. Here for some advice…

Context: I’m 37. MBA+Engg Grad working. Big Blr Startup. Good Role in Biz. Married (Started dating 12 years back & then got married). 

I’m an extrovert/fairly social (Mostly hang out/around other people/friends around a similar life stage - age/work). Most of my friends from School, Engg & B-School are all over the place (we meet once in a year types), no one in Bangalore. Hanging around with people at work is not something I like to do more than once in a month. My wife, on the other hand, has a good set of friends, with whom I hang out quite regularly (guys & girls). 

For a while now, I’ve been thinking of investing some time into making friends/building relationships outside of my social circle (Not that I’m looking to cheat on my wife, but then sometimes it’s good to hang out with people who aren’t your partner’s friends or are already part of your existing work/social circle). 

In short - I’d like to meet unconnected new people. And I’m realizing that at my age, it’s not so easy to do so without seeming creepy.

About a year back, I met an ex-colleague (28F) over drinks (She was in town and asked if we could meet) - Super attractive and smart. It has 12+ years since I’ve randomly met anyone from the opposite sex alone for a meal/conversation (outside of a work meeting). At first, it was super awkward - uncomfortable pauses, loss of words, asking dumb questions, etc. Luckily, in a bit, alcohol kicked in and then it got much better… We still text & meet if we’re in each other’s cities with some time to spare. That’s when it hit me that I was good at making small talk, but have no idea what to talk about when it’s someone who’s some 10+ years younger. Seems like another generation (which it probably is)… While I felt so, I must also admit, I had a great time to be honest - the conversations were energizing/different and to be honest, a tad exciting too.

Ofcourse the man or groom.
Some of his relations are also important like his mother (how her life has been), his friends, probably his sister

When You look ugly

Matched with a girl on hinge in Delhi NCR, turns out we already connected many years ago when I was in Mumbai, used to text then lost touch when I moved to Bangalore (never met). Now crossing paths in NCR again, maybe we actually meet this time.

Same thing happened with someone I dated briefly in Bangalore, turns out she moved to NCR as well few years ago. Planning to meet and catch up now.

Many more such friends and acquaintances i have in almost every part of India now. 

Makes me feel like the world isn't as big as it seems. It's mostly the same crowd moving between cities every few years.

Has this happened with you as well?

And it's a bad thingggg, she says. I mean, if I dont have anything to say, I won't say it. I'd rather add value. I've always been the quiet one even during college clubs etc. Honestly tho I'm really not. I have things to say but man they honestly are dumb things.
And the thing is? Most people talk about party n stuff and and I'm not a person who does small talks easily, especially online.

What should I do ? Is it normal when you are making switch as an experienced candidate?

I haven't rejoined any of my previous organisations so far and am planning to maintain the same for as long as possible.

0. Try to have a call/video call before the first date. Always take their phone number/insta id before agreeing to meet, plenty of ghosters and shady folks these days.

1. Always try to meet outside for the first date. Don't go for drives. Those kinda dates almost never end up going well in the long run. Ask to meet halfway, don't go out of your way just to meet someone.

2. Don't meet someone with the expectation to start dating or getting married right away. Get to know them as friends first. Everything else later. 

3. Date for 2-3 months at least before committing to be exclusive, don't rush into things and keep your options open. 

4. Do not go for dates when you're feeling down or depressed. Meeting a stranger most likely won't help, it'll only distract temporarily.

5. Draw up a list of things you want and don't want in a partner. Should have at least 5-6 points on both sides. Pointless to date without knowing that much, but the list will also change with time. 

6. Keep an open mind, try to be empathetic, and have fun. Don't compromise just to please the other. Learn to take a stand and draw boundaries from the start.

7. Use protection always, no matter what. And also have some self defense prepared just in case (for all genders).

Having met hundreds of people through dating apps in the last decade, these are a few rules I formed for myself over time. Hope they help :)

Picked up coding again and feel ready for a job now Should I be honest or lie about the gap? Been ghosted my few recruiters whom I was honest with.]

JS developer here. I used to be a decent student, public speaker and one of the best quizzers in the college scene (former National Champ). But I never addressed some traumatic events that took place in my life before I turned 16. My depression took refuge in substance abuse and I abandoned all studies/career prospects during the pandemic. Eventually after 7 years of using, I got clean/sober in Jan'23 and resumed my studies. I earned my degree but on paper it took me 8 years to complete a 4 year B. Tech (2016-24).

Reasonably I get asked about the gap in my academics by hr/recruiters whom I push my CV to. I've been dead honest to them about my struggles with mental health and addiction in the past. And I've been getting ghosted. (It could be because of skill reasons on my part but I'm not even getting a feedback).

Should I not tell recruiters the truth about the gap? Should I leave the addiction bit out? How should I word it? I've never held a real coding job before but been slogging for the last 6 months to get better each day (my github and projects will reflect that). Please help me out with all your valuable suggestions. If you're a tech recruiter let me know how you would perceive my case.

It's been a year and a month since I've been unemployed.
I had a chronic illness which lasted for 2.5 years ( yes I was working when I was sick - worst decision of my life ) .

I recovered from it in September 2023, since then I've been looking for new jobs in frontend domain.
In my previous role , I was working as a support engineer for a service based company but wanted to work in frontend. During my illness period I also joined a cohort and also did a certification in React development.

Now, when I apply for jobs, I'm getting no calls, when I do get calls from recruiters, they ask about my career gap I tell them everything that happened. After the call they just ghost me.

How am I supposed to justify my career gap so that I can proceed further with the interview?
Do I lie about it and say that I did freelancing, I've heard most people do these kinds of things when they have to justify any kind of career gap.

My bestfriend is going to the USA. She has gotten an admit to a very prestigious university for MS in CS. I have known her all my life and have had a crush for almost 15 years now. 

I never had the guts to say it to her because the timing was never convenient. We used to hangout together a lot. She was also in a relationship on and off with this guy. Maybe she did not see me as boyfriend material or I don't know. But I always wanted to be with her. 

I never looked at any other girl because I knew I liked her. So I waited and waited. Hoping that she would see me the way I saw her. She would love me the way I wanted to love her. But mard apni pasandeeda aurat ke lie kuch bhi kar sakta hai. So I decided not to confess my feelings to her. 

I did not want to jeopardise my friendship with her. But now that she is leaving for USA. I am scared we will not talk as much. Should I confess my feelings or let her go?
