People who reduced IG/Smartphone usage, how did you do it?
It’s clear to me that this isn’t good for me. My interaction with the outside world and being in the present is inversely proportional to how much I use IG/smartphone. IG is obv the strongest drug, but in general want to be more conscious about what I do on my phone, when Inuse it. Looking for genuine advice. Please help 🙏🏻

I've set timers for 19 apps in my phone by digital wellbeing 🤷
It'll help in long run

Travel more, meet random people, go to gym, read books and keep yourself busy as much as possible.
Uninstall... Uninstall... Uninstall...
Uninstall one app and find - more time to yourself, better mental health and peace, less toxicity around you and thousands of such benefits. 🌝

I follow a uninstall on weekdays policy. Limits the junk to the weekends
I uninstalled IG and FB 2 years back and I have been happy as ever. I was going through something and as a result I uninstalled it but it's the best decision ever. I adopted a pet, I spend time with my friends, I go to the gym, I try to work on something productive every other week, I try to eat healthy. Now when I see the weekly mobile usage report and if this week says that I used my mobile less than last week I get so happy. Work on yourself rather than seeing fake people working on themselves by exhibiting fake images and products.

Uninstall ig app al and use it on mobile browser. Even better is touse ig only on desktop browser (since desktop time < time spent on mobile).
Did this for IG as I hate the time sunk and repetitive lame stuff reels are. They get you lost for hours but are so forgettable. Watch reels on mute and they will appear really lame - you can start transition this way.
Regarding reducing mobile screen time - don't buy the high end smartphone with better display or refresh rates. Prioritise what 2-3 things you really need & buy a decent reliable one. For me it's calling, utilities and camera - so bought a Pixel 6a for 25k in bbd, which serves well for 2 years.
For other video consumption - move it to TV or laptop. If you have the money and want comfort as you grow older, why watch YT, or movies or shown on a small mobile screen. I screen cast YouTube from my laptop browser to TV during my dedicated leisure hours.

Big billion day on flipkart
Jinke paas kaam nahi hota sirf wahin logo zyada phone istemal karte hain
My father used to say this
I had first set usage limit to 1 hr, it was difficult for first few days, but once I got used to like in a week or so, uninstalled it.
Now rarely open it on browser, i utilise that time learning something new or on my hobbies.
You need to divert time.. Go to gym. Can save 1-2 hours of IG usgae, watch a movie can save arround 3 hours of IG usage (I know it still adds to screen time, but I feel its still better than IG). This is how you should approach at the beginning.
Once that cool of time is done ( mostly 1-2 months ) you can control the time based on your need.
I personally don’t think uninstalling will work. Since its hardly take 1-2 mins to install and setup.

I uninstalled Instagram and because I don't post that much I just kinda forgot about it. However the mindless consumption has been substituted in part by reddit and this app.
Uninstalling is the way to go, regardless. After a point you'll realise it makes no difference to the quality of your life other than more freedom from the algo.

Left IG 2-3 years back. I started off with uninstalling but was still addicted enough to log on through the web. Eventually cut that down as well. More than uninstalling I felt it was understanding that it's just not good for you, nothing good ever comes off it. I started comparing my life to others who were on a much different path and that made me miserable for some reason. I won't lie I still sometimes watch YT shorts but not for more than 10 minutes and overall screen time reduced the moment I got rid of IG. I'm much happier as well!
Do daily meditation at least 15 mins, through meditation you will get control over your mind... You will get result in 15 days..
Meet people around you
Read good book like "don't believe everything you think"
I know at starting its difficult to do.. but only you can control of you really want to do..

Uninstalling will never help… deactivate your account first then uninstall the app.
It works for me.

1.Get addicted to something else... 😃 For me it's spending time with plants and my family.
2.I also uninstalled all the shopping apps, when I need to shop, I will do it on the web or install only for a few hours , once I'm done with the shopping I uninstall it .
3. Logout from Zomato and swiggy, when you really need to order, log in.
4. Set the timer on Instagram . It rarely helps, but it's good to have that check too.
5. On WhatsApp, i have archived all the chats except for immediate friends and family.
6. Keeping an eye on digital wellbeing. My husband and I , kinda started it like competition. We make sure it is less than 2 hours everyday. Having an accountability partner actually helps.
7. I fix time to binge reels, especially the food ones, so we can make a solid weekend plan. So weekends also we are out exploring and reducing the mobile usage.....

Use Instagram on the web on mobile. It will be so annoying either you will delete it or you will keep your phone away because of frustration.
Uninstall every social media app that you can and possibly switch to a Nokia keypad phone
You can use the phone but just think of what you are doing and how much resources you are depleting and what are the other options. Keep researching it heavily. That's actually what everyone should do and work on creating ideas and a better world for everybody.
