So my current manager has decided there is not enough work to give me so she has decided to release me. I was fine with that because I thought I could start fresh. But on the same day I was told of the release I have been added to some other project. I was in Java development and now i have been added to some support project. When I called the new manager to tell him I am not interested he spoke very rudely asking me whether I think I can dictate terms around here with just shy of 2 year experience. All these decisions are made by people above you and I have to do as asked.  Is this normal in service based companies ??

How do you survive in a multiple hat role job?

I have been employed at a service-based company for the past 2.6 years. Recently, I have been assigned to a new project with a different team. However, my manager has been quite demanding and insistent on my physical presence in the office. Additionally, they expect me to participate in video calls for every meeting and ask detailed questions about my work, often focusing on minor details. Unfortunately, the tasks I am currently working on no longer bring me excitement. Moreover, my manager's authoritative behavior is not something I appreciate. I am starting to wonder if I am experiencing burnout, as I have never encountered these issues before. Is this a normal situation, or should I consider seeking a new opportunity? Other than these work-related challenges, everything else seems to be going well.

I’m currently working in a support project and whatever I heard from my seniors and fellow guys at work is that nobody stays with this client and company for more than a year or two. I joined here as a fresher with some really good dev skills but the work and tech here is not allowing me to put them to use. I’m feeling like quitting from here, but again need to brush up my skills as I did not put them to use over a period of 14 months. Also there is a lot of micromanagement going on and I’m not comfortable with that. No one takes ownership of work and tries to push it to you and make you work on it.

I feel I have always been very competitive in my life and it has always drained me out. When I got job I thought finally I am done with this rat race. But no, everyday I have to push so much in order to prove myself in my job which gets very overwhelming and disturbs my work life balance.

So I work in a new york based startup and they hired me as project manager. I am from tech bg with 1 year of experience and no mgmt experience. Completing 2 years in this company and have created processes from scratch to increase team size and team dynamics. There was one conversation which HR heard out of context and started politics with CEO. Now in my review their "trust" overshadowed my "performance". They even out of nowhere telling my leaves were not judiciary! Now i don't trust this company anymore. Already my managers were too underperforming and disappointing. 

There were many scenarios where I took in charge of anyone's absence and even in my absence took care of things. 

They giving NO raise !!! Not even something to match inflation!

I am feeling very exhausted with company's policy and CEO being nosy in each and everything. And too disappointed in company's "trust" definitions.

Talked to my manager and cleared out my performance. Talking to CEO in next days to reclarify their issues. 

Any help or word of advise???

Disappointed after overperformance!!

Need guidance from fellow experienced folks or who have done this before. What are the proper reasons to ask for a release.

My reasons:
- work is too hectic and repetitive and no growth technically (mostly support and maintenance once in a blue moon some dev sort of work).

- Client is mismanaged they dont know what work is important and come with multiple deadlines even before prod day.

- No proper KT is given when assigning a new task.

- In the name of agile its kanban board and not jira (given a sprint task to be finished in a day or two and new tickets pulled in between).

- Manager swaps ticket often in between sprint.

- Manager is mostly away even on standups or client calls so we manage faking they worked and we manage in behind scenes.

- Due to too many upcoming requests in tight deadlines from last 3 months wlb is miserable and have worked two weeks without an off once and night shift charges given is 220 only per day.

Now I need your all guidance on what can be a better approach or how to improvise

Asking manager a release?

I joined the company in Dec of 2021 and since then I have been completing udemy courses and company wide seminars and everything except work.

I got into a project around June and till now I haven't done any work at all. When I ask the manager about this he always says the profile has been sent to the client, they will let us know about work and stuff like that. Towards December he just saw my messages and didn't even reply back.

I was off-boarded from the so-called project a while ago and when I asked about this he says I'll be shifted to another project. "P2P movement" idk what it is.

In summary: on paper I have 1 year experience but I don't have any knowledge about work and I'm functioning like I'm still a fresher. I don't think I can quit as I'm on a two year bond.

I got this job when I was in very desperate times and I'm very grateful for it and the salary I'm getting but I'm still at a place where I can't tell anyone what work I did in 1 whole year in a company. Maybe I can prepare for some competitive exams or prepare for another job, but tbh I don't know anything about anything. 

My friends tell me to chill out since I'm getting paid for doing nothing but I don't feel that, I feel I'm stagnated to a point where I can't see where I'm going to end up in my career. I don't even know if I'm an experienced working professional or still a fresher.

I haven't got any proper work since a year now

I recently started a new job. I would like to share some of the experiences I have had with my manager. I am wondering if these are red flags or if I am maybe being paranoid or thinking too much.

It was quite difficult for me to get into this company and this job. The company is quite great and I was quite excited but some of the experiences I have had with my immediate manager have made me a bit apprehensive.
I would like to share them and hear opinions about it.

Here are some things which have happened which I have not liked so far - 

1. I speak to a Senior Engineer one day and next day my manager asks me if anyone asked me to speak to him. 
2. I shared an insight about a new tool which we can use on a deployment pipeline on the overall pod (under my skip manager). My manager immediately called me and started asking my status update and replied 'Discussing 1-1' in the group to prevent anyone getting visibility of the idea. 
3. My manager pings me whenever I go offline and recently he asked me in a passive aggressive way, 'Please monitor your Teams status. It was away for most of today.' I now feel kind of paranoid to never get up as I feel my Teams status is being monitored.

Is my manager too much of a micromanaging red flag ? I started a new job and my manager monitors my Teams online status.

Yes this is straight up micromanagement and insecurity. 
  
 Just stand up to him man. The more of such things you allow him to do, the more courage he will get and more he will fuck your life.  
  
 Just stand your ground for a few times and he'll understand that you are not the guy he can do this to.

Its very very disappointing that management comes to you to want some names from your team, so that they release them from the project.

I quit Deloitte after 4 years of excruciating pain. Here's why?

The concept of bench will literally kill your confidence the most. If you know how to beg then you will succeed here because if you don't beg for projects then they will definitely lay you off. 

I was always a bright student in college and chose Deloitte because of the brand name but if I had known that once I was hired, I would still have to find jobs every day, I would have never joined this hell. This is utterly ridiculous.

I have now joined an early stage startup which has been the best decision of my life. Deloitte is literally the worst company ever. There were a couple of seniors who used to say the most hurtful shit to me whenever I used to go to the washroom.

These Indian seniors always harass freshers while the American teams are usually much nicer and respectful. Don't throw your youth away in the name of earning a few bucks.

How Deloitte USI almost ruined my life ☣️

I will go first, i have deleted my first company from my resume because even though i was very good at coding. They put me in a support project in graveyard shift.  I faked illness to get out of shift, and later on was removed and put in angular project. 

I moved on 6 months later to a good company as backend engineer but i really regret joining my 1st company.

When asked , I just say the work was not relevant to what i wanted.

I developed an API that basically took inputs from a webform and loaded it into Salesforce (I have oversimplified here).  
 While testing , one of the fields was "website", I simply typed "www.rk.com" which were the initials of my pet doggo. 
 The test went well, data got loaded into Salesforce. 
 I then get pinged by the multiple people that rk.com is a porn site and multiple people while verifying the test results ended up clicking on the link and got flagged by the IT security team for watching porn on office laptop🤣 . 
  
 It was an honest mistake nonetheless, but very horrifying for me🙈

Appraisal Season '24: What was your last salary and what is your current salary?

The company haven’t paid us 3-6months of salary saying that there’s a delay in raising VC funds. They also didn’t pay TDS and gave us Form 16 for ITR. 

I reached out to our client company where I worked briefly and they were happy to offer me a job there. I’m dangerously out of money in savings and it’s still uncertain in my current company about any funds. So I have given a early date to him because I really need their salary and joining bonus to survive actually. I thought I can immediately relieve from my current company as I don’t have finished projects and haven’t involve in new. But they are not responding to my calls and mail requesting for immediate resignation. 


What should I do now ?

Acceptance of resignation has no value, the day you resigned is considered for notice period start date.

So I joined a startup on Oct, 23(6 months completed).  They are struggling to raise funds. From Jan, they started layoffs from ops and customer support, went to major cost-cutting: no tea, snacks, giving the floor to rent, restricting the leaves: like for leave, you have to get approval from HR and the CEO, not the manager.  I'm in a tech team, and multiple products are lined up for release, so work is there, but ultra micro-managing. I'm getting opportunities but I'm not sure whether to switch or not. 

I leave my last job in 5 months due to their funding issue. That's why I'm skeptical to leave or not. 

Would love to hear advice.
